Friday night, Stephanie and I went Ice Skating at the Hoffman Estates Park District with Jackie Sanchez and her friend Kim. The last time I was ice skating, or so I am told, was about 21 years ago. I was 2 years old at the time and, apparently, cried because I didn't like it. Well, fast-forward 21 years, when Jackie brought up the idea of ice skating, I jumped on it. I've played roller hockey (on roller blades) for quite a number of years, and always wondered how much different ice skating is. Turns out, not much. I was a little shaky on the ice at first, but after a couple of laps, I had moving forward down pretty well. I could run on the skates and do crossovers on the turns just fine. Took me a little longer to skate backwards. I had to learn to redistribute my weight correctly, but before long I got it down. The only thing I haven't completely figured out yet is the hockey stop. Open skating was only open from 8 to 10 p.m. (and we were there for an hour and a half), so there wasn't much time to practice. Stephanie did a good job of skating as well. She didn't fall the entire night (I did a few times) and was starting to get the hang of crossovers.
Thanks for the invite Jackie! The entire night was a blast. We had a lot of fun and I can't wait to get back out on the ice again!
